Are you looking for a fun and creative way to announce to friends or family that you are expecting twins? Look no further!
My partner and I had decided to share the news with a few family members before we announced our twin pregnancy on social media, so we had a few chances to get creative and plan different methods for announcing. Since our family and friends didn’t know that we were pregnant until we excitingly broke the news, we announced that we were pregnant and THEN announced that it was twins a few minutes later in every in-person or Facetime. We felt like we needed to hit them with each piece of news separately since we thought it would be a lot to process (we were still processing it ourselves!).

Here are some of the top twin pregnancy announcement ideas that we used or loved (and almost used) when sharing the news with our family and friends:
1. Food
If you are having a family or friend gathering, announcing your twin pregnancy with food is one way to surprise the group! We personally had our parents and siblings over to celebrate my husband’s (belated) birthday and writing on his birthday cake “Happy Birthday Daddy” was how we decided to share the news with our immediate family.
When we decided to announce our pregnancy to our extended family, it also happened to fall around fall holidays. I typically make a pie or two for Thanksgiving, so cutting out letters in the pie crust to spell out “We’re Pregnant!” with two hearts under the letters was how we announced it to that group. It was a hit! And dropping the hint of two babies with the two hearts under the text was a fun addition.
Another idea we had considered was writing “we’re pregnant” inside of a pizza box since we often have casual pizza dinners with both sides of the family. This idea is quick and easy and only requires a marker to pull off! Some other simple food announcement ideas could be: putting two buns in the oven, placing food toppings to say “twins” with any type of food for a get-together, or writing on the inside of a donut box.
All of these ideas can be modified to specifically announce that it’s twins too – we just personally chose to break the news that we were pregnant before showing everyone the ultrasound photos to show that there were two!
2. Onesies
Baby onesies and other baby clothing announcements are cute, practical ways to announce your twin pregnancy. And bonus – the babies can wear them when they arrive! You can simply hold up two outfits or two onesies with writing on them, or other items or accessories like pairs of shoes, two bows, two hats, and more.
If you are looking for custom onesies with either names or a sayings on them, you can look online for twin specific sets or get someone to make custom ones from Etsy or from your local crafter. If you have a Cricut machine or know someone who does, you can also make your own onesies or shirts.

3. Involving Other Children or Pets
If you have other children, you have a few other options to announce your twin pregnancy too! A quick and simple idea is you can take a photo with your other kids holding up an ultrasound photo. Or if you have some time, you can get or make shirts for your kids to wear and then they can either have them on when you have other family/friends over or you can share a photo with them in the announcement shirts.
If you have pets like dogs or cats, you can also take a photo with them with the ultrasound photos! Like the shirt idea with other children, I have also seen photos of people putting custom bandanas on their dogs announcing their pregnancy. Or, having signs either next to pets or draped around their necks is another creative way to announce!
4. Gifts for Grandparents
Another way to announce your twin pregnancy with family and friends can be to give gifts to people to share the news – specifically to the grandparents-to-be! Cue the “world’s best ____” shirts, “Grandma/Grandpa” mugs, and more novelty items. If you are announcing close to winter holidays, tree ornaments could be a cute gift to commemorate this new chapter! And for a more unique party announcement, a custom label to go on a special wine, beer, or other alcohol bottle could be very fun.
5. Ultrasound photos
Last but not least is to simply show your friends and family ultrasound photos. This can be done in person or virtually! This is a great idea if you have friends or family living far away. I personally Facetimed my childhood friends and showed them the ultrasound photos, starting with the individual photos of each baby and then showing them the one ultrasound photo showing both babies once I was ready to drop the even bigger surprise that i was pregnant with twins (my twins are di/di, so we got separate photos of each sack and each baby and then one shot with both of them in it).
Some close family wanted to see the ultrasound photos right away when we told them that we were pregnant anyways, so we decided to announce in a creative way that we were pregnant and then share that it was twins when we showed everyone the ultrasound photos. To say they were shocked was an understatement! If the tears weren’t already flowing from the first announcement, they definitely were by the time we showed them the ultrasound photos.

Bonus Tip: How to Handle Social Media Pregnancy Announcements
And I couldn’t wrap up this post without acknowledging social media and its role in announcing big life changes like a pregnancy. All of these twin pregnancy announcement ideas above can also be used for social media posts to share with the world! They can be paired with cute captions, letter boards, signs, and more to make it even more obvious that you are expecting twins. There are even some really cute social media twin pregnancy announcement editable templates on Etsy, or you can get crafty and make your own!
Announcing a twin pregnancy can be very exciting (and daunting), and I hope that reading this gives you some ideas on how to announce your own twin pregnancy! Whether the idea is simple or more involved and creative, I’m sure no matter what you choose will be perfect and will be memorable for all involved.
